Years ago, I imagined writing a biography of one of my heroes - the composer, Bela Bartok. But I discovered that my ignorance of the details of his life as opposed to the reverence with which I regarded his music, precluded the project. Instead, I decided that the only person about whom I knew plenty was myself.

But it had already been obvious to me when thinking about Bartok that a book tells a story in a linear fashion - one page after another - whereas we live our lives on many different levels and in many different theatres of action simultaneously. How could a biography (an autobiography in this case) attempt to show these different aspects in a non-linear way?

My solution was as a website: raykohn.com with imagery created by my talented daughter, Ruth. You are welcome to view the result although the content does not cover what I have been doing for the past decade or so. Several writers have told me that the result is an interesting approach to the problems generated by book format.
